The Marcillac valley offers a spread of landscapes of staggering beauty, enhanced by man’s architectural talents. Local heritage has left towers and castles of noblemen (Muret); bourgeois wine-growing manors and abbeys (Grand-Combe, Bougaunes); and, agricultural domains on the Causse (limestone plateaus) devoted to the raising of sheep and beef (Cadayrac).
Religious heritage is widespread. In the heart of the villages, in the middle of nowhere is Saint-Jean-le-Froid or as a response to economic development there are the monastic barns of Billorgues, Séveyrac, La Vayssière.
Naturally discrete is the smaller patrimony (dolmens, pigeon houses, ovens etc.) which can be found just around the corner, or in dwellings. There where it is most useful.
